About

Mike McGuire is a painter and teacher living and working in New York City. His paintings depict unknown spaces inspired by childhood memories and odd forgotten places in his daily life. The style of his work takes influence from John Wesley and Joseph Albers as well as background art from classic Looney Toones animations. McGuire had his first solo exhibition in 2013 at Kianga Ellis Projects and has shown his work in numerous group exhibitions throughout New York City including Future Fair 2023. Outside of his painting practice, McGuire is pursuing a degree in film studies at the CUNY Graduate Center where he's writing on topics ranging from representation of African American women in film to female vigilantes in 1970's exploitation cinema.
